Iowa State Cyclones head coach Matt Campbell was furious at the referees over a penalty call in their Week 4 game against the Baylor Bears.
The Iowa State Cyclones entered Week 4 looking to continue their undefeated season by beating the No. 17 Baylor Bears. One area that did hurt Iowa State’s chances were penalties, but one got a prominent figure on the team heated with the officiating.
In the second quarter, the Cyclones were penalized 15-yards for illegal blocking. Specifically, the officials believed that Iowa State defensive back Anthony Johnson Jr. dished out a block below the waist.
Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell was livid on the sidelines, screaming at the officials over the call. His anger only increased after watching the replay on the screen at Jack Trice Stadium.

Yeah, Campbell was very angry and did not like that call. It was a controversial penalty, after all, considering the debate of whether Johnson really laid down a block below the waist.
To make matters worse for Campbell and the Cyclones, the Bears were able to get points out of it five plays later. Quarterback Blake Shapen connected with linebacker Dillon Doyle for a one-yard touchdown, extending their lead to 17-7.
The Cyclones were able to cut their deficit to 17-14 just before halftime on a Hunter Dekkers 24-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Dimitri Stanley.
Campbell lived out every football fans dream — chewing out a referee after a bad call.
