Miami football got completely humbled by giant underdog Middle Tennessee State and the college football media let them have it.
Miami football is definitely not back.
We pretty much knew that last week when the Hurricanes dropped a game to Texas A&M but things got much, much worse this week.
Middle Tennessee State came to town and walloped Miami, 45-31. It was not that close either as the Blue Raiders led by 21 in the second quarter and never let the Hurricanes get close enough to threaten them.
College football media reacts to Miami upset vs. Middle Tennessee
Miami fans were ruthless ripping head coach Mario Cristobal in the first half. Once the game was over, the college football media on Twitter went in on the Hurricanes as well.
MTSU was supposed to get a payday and a whooping. Instead, they got the payday and enjoyed a dominant victory over a once-storied program.
For Miami, it’s clear Cristobal and company need a lot of work. There was plenty of hype coming into the season but they are not ready to contend for the ACC title.
The task is now to salvage the rest of the season. Putting the feeling of these last two weeks behind them will require some immediate improvement.
Next week they get North Carolina coming off their own demoralizing loss to Notre Dame. They’ll face tests against Florida State and Duke and close the season with back-to-back matchups against Clemson and Pitt.
Playing like they did against MTSU they won’t get many wins but there is time to turn things around and salvage the campaign.
