The Ohio State Buckeyes had a difficult start to their season, as they trailed the Notre Dame Fighting Irish10-7 at halftime.
The start of the college football season got underway for the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday, Sept. 3. After a less than ideal finish last year, where they missed out on the College Football Playoff due to a loss to the Michigan Wolverines, the Buckeyes had the chance to make the ultimate statement to begin the 2022 campaign. Ranked the second-best school in the nation by the AP, they hosted the No. 5 Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Ohio Statdium.
It was far form the start that Buckeyes fans had envisioned, as they trailed the Fighting Irish 10-7 enter the locker rooms at halftime. To say Ohio State fans were not expecting this was an understatement.
Ohio State fans panic on Twitter after team trails Notre Dame at halftime
When looking at the halftime statistics, it is a pretty evenly matched game between Ohio State and Notre Dame. But considering the Buckeyes have quarterback C.J. Stroud, running back TreVeyon Henderson, and wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba on offense, the expectation was that there would be plenty of points on the board by halftime.
Stroud completed just 11 of his 17 pass attempts for 99 yards and one touchdown. Ohio State’s lone score came on a pass from Stroud to Emeka Egbuka.
Notre Dame’s defense under head coach Marcus Freeman was able to prevent the Buckeyes from reaching the end zone much in the first half. However, the offense was able to outgain Ohio State’s 181 yards to 149 yards.
Ohio State fans will sure hope that there will be a huge second half surge that helps lead them to their first win of the season, and their fifth in a row against Notre Dame.
